Newsletter –12 January 2006

President’s Message:

First off, let me report that the meeting will continue to be held at Capt. Jack’s for another week or two, possibly a whole month. We need to look for new digs, but this week we will meet back with Debbie.

My thanks to Chief Hedges for standing in for me last week. For the time being, do not send me to a game to cheer for your team. While in Boston I took in a Celtics game, and they lost. Then I attended the Jags game and… well, you know what happened there.

We had a Board meeting Monday and wound up dropping two members from the roster (Stuart Lane and Rob Cobb) and adding three (Art May, Ned Ross, and Rudy Xue). At least we are going in the right direction. There are also one or two others in the wings. (New members that is.)

To be fair to all, the Board decided to announce that a place at the International Convention will be opened up to volunteers. Our Secretary is going, and there is room for one more. If you want to be considered, get your name to me by 19 January. The meeting is in Montreal in June, but we must get paperwork in early to get the best prices and choices.

Coming Events: [Advise the editor of events of interest at 797-4332]

6 February 2006: Regular monthly board meeting to be held at The Allegro. The meeting will start at 1700 hours. There is much to discuss, so be prompt and be prepared to share some ideas.

18 February 2006: The date is set for the Kiwanis Garage Sale. Bring your items to Tim’s, mark the price if you don’t want to sell it for something less, and plan to come and help. (We need at least one person with a “carry permit” to stand guard over the coffee and doughnuts so that we don’t have a recurrence of the last one.)

Programs: (Check the website for your speaker assignment date.)

LAST WEEK: Judi Robinson’s speaker was David Burrow, the Director of FCTI and has been in charge of Culinary Arts for many years. He certainly opened my eyes to what was going on at the school

THIS WEEK: Human & Spiritual Values meeting.

NEXT WEEK: We will honor our Student of the Month next week and Richard Welty, covering for John Regan, will present Art Lillquest, the Director of St. Augustine Village Museum, the property that was donated by the late Kenneth Dow, and which depicts the city’s history at various stages of its life.

Guests: No guest this week, not even Art Liepold’s only friends, but it was nice to see Rudy Xue here for his first meeting as a member. As a matter of fact, there was a very low turnout which was caused by TMF (Too Much Football).

⅓-⅓-⅓ DRAWING WINNERS: The winners this week were the aforementioned Art Liepold and Rudy Xue. Congrats, and mix those tickets up better next time. Buy your tickets early and often.

Late Breaking News:

Here are just a few things to keep in mind, so that our projects will go smoothly this year. We are planning a garage sale, and need some of you to donate a garage that you don’t mind selling. Actually, we need for you guys to get together your “junque” (that’s classy junk) so that we can make it someone else’s “treasure.” The date is still now set, so get your items to Tim so that we know how much we have to sell. Tim requests that you mark your price on the item so that no one can come back later and gripe that we sold it too low. If you could care less, then don’t bother marking a price on it.

Our basketball tourney is coming up this month, and we will need to sell the sponsorships again, and we need to get that done ASAP. We have to get the shirts printed.

Well, college football is over for another few months, and FSU officially lost to Penn State, but it’s like the time Bear Bryant brought the Tide to Tallahassee to play what they considered a scrimmage game. Coach Peterson’s boys (this was BB, or Before Bowden) played them to a 35 – 35 tie. We celebrated that “victory” for about a year.

Now all that is left before baseball is the playoffs with the pros. The Jags looked out of it, and I think they should have put Garrard in, and I thought the Patriots looked real sharp, especially when you consider their performance against the Dolphins the week before. I still think that the Colts will get to the Super Bowl this year, and perhaps the Seahawks.
