President’s Message:

Still meeting with Debbie at Capt. Jack’s. Come on down.

Attention: This Saturday is the yard sale to be held at Tim Chiu’s business, A1A Hardware and Storage Units. Bring what you want to donate to Tim and he will show you where to put it. More importantly, you need to help. There is a lot of stuff there already, and it needs to be priced and prepared for the sale. We need help Friday afternoon, and we really need help Saturday morning to get the tables out and the goods arranged for sale. The sale is advertised to start at 0800 hours. Now if you have ever been involved with one of these, you know that there is a group who show up at least 30 minutes early to get the choice stuff. Therefore, we will need to be there at least an hour early to set up. Probably more like an hour and a half early.

One other thing…when pricing the items, put a decent price on the item. One can always come DOWN on the price, but you can NEVER go UP!

I want to welcome two new members to the club, Brent Fonner and Ned Ross, both of whom were inducted into the club at last week’s meeting. First chance to get to work is Friday, you guys. You joined a great club at a great time. Welcome!

We were honored to have Lt. Gov. Bill Montgomery at the meeting, making one of his trips to see us. (For those of you who don’t know, Bill is a Marine who was on Iwo Jima during WWII. ‘Nuff said.) He announced that at the last Division Council meeting our own Steve Fricke was awarded the Toot-Toot award for his publicity efforts. (We have really appreciated his efforts too.) He also gave us some dates of up-coming events which are included in the section below. Always glad to have Bill join us and the welcome mat is always out for him.

We have looked at The Village Inn as a place to hold our meetings, and it appears that this can be arranged. As most of you know, they are in the throes of expanding. Our crew of intrepid searchers think is will work very well for us. Looks like it will be 2 March before we can make the change. They need to finish their remodeling.

Coming Events: [Advise the editor of events of interest at 797-4332]

2 March 2006: District Governor’s meeting to be held at Selva Marina CC. The meeting starts at 1800 hours, and the Governor would like to meet with the club officers in attendance at 1700 hours.

6 March 2006: Regular monthly board meeting to be held at The Allegro. The meeting will start at 1700 hours. There is much to discuss, so be prompt and be prepared to share some ideas.

11 March 2006: Kiwanis College (formerly Zone Conference) held in Lake City, and it begins at 0730. Early wake up for the ones attending that meeting.

16 March 2006: Our annual Geography Bee to be held at Sebastian Middle School beginning at 1900 hours.

Guests: Harry Matteson, our fellow Kiwanian from Malone, NY, is here for his annual vacation; Key Clubbers, John Jertson, Jordan Hausler, and Ellie Jacobs, as well as the sponsor, Angie Prosch, were making a much appreciated appearance at our club.

Programs: (Check the website for your speaker assignment date.)

LAST WEEK: We honored our Student of the Month, Brian Taylor, a senior at FSDB, who is a very good woodworker to boot. He was accompanied by Brett Sendler, from the school, as well as his mother and sister, Joan Taylor and Angie Taylor. We wish Brian all the best as he moves forward in his life. In addition, we had our Human & Spiritual Values speaker introduced by Skeeter, and that was the new head football coach at Menendez, Keith Cronwell, who explained his philosophy which is similar to Joey Wiles. We have some of the most spiritual coaches in this county, and the neat part is that they have a tendency to win too… Or maybe they win because of it.

THIS WEEK:  Our own resident Boy Scout, Lou Nester, has the duty. Bring it on, because we know that you are prepared.

NEXT WEEK: Our intrepid earring wearer, Frank Nemec, has the program responsibility, and we look forward to it.

⅓-⅓-⅓ DRAWING WINNERS: Something that doesn’t happen very often occurred last meeting, Art May had two of his tickets pulled. Congrats to Art, but REALLY mix those tickets up better next time. Buy your tickets early and often.

Late Breaking News:

This is one more reminder that the yard sale is coming up, and we need some stuff to sell. Don’t wait until the night before to bring it in. Sign up to help when the sign up sheet comes to a table you are sitting at.

The annual Geography Bee is coming up soon and Bob will keep us posted as to when it will be held. New members, this is a MUST attend! You will enjoy it as much as the kids. Sign up to help at this one too.

Winter Olympics are in full swing in Turin (a/k/a Torino. Are we going to start calling it the Shroud of Torino from now on?) At any rate, I have spent more time trying to answer that question than I have watching any of it. I just can’t get excited about the Olympics any more, not since they sent the NBA team to play as Team USA.

Quote(s) of the Week:
"The prosperity of commerce is now perceived and acknowledged by all enlightened statesmen to be the most useful as well as the most productive source of national wealth, and has accordingly become a primary object of its political cares." -—Alexander Hamilton

"Why does any particular disaster kill whom it does? Only God knows. It seems unlikely that He has briefed the ministers and commentators so busy advancing their political agendas. However, natural catastrophes do illustrate the uncertainty of life. God calls us to love Him and our neighbors, create a culture that values the life and dignity of the human person, and repent of our sins. And to do so now, because we never know what the future holds." —Doug Bandow

"We have the right, as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right so to appropriate a dollar of the public money." —Davy Crockett
