Message:
Still meeting with Debbie at Capt. Jack’s. Come on down. Plan on meeting at Village Inn on 2 March, unless otherwise notified. They think they will have their construction completed by Friday, 24 February, so next Thursday should be OK for us to begin meeting there.
Last
Saturday was a huge success!! Here are the figures: From sale - $1049; Coffee Donation- $16.31; Gross
- $1065.31; Less Expenses - $52.61;
Net - $1012.70. Thanks go out especially to Tim and Jolande Chiu, for the use of the hall for storage and for actually holding the sale on their property. They took on a lot of responsibility to store and guard the goods, and for that the club is most grateful. We also had a number of Key Club members and for that we are also grateful. For so many years we sponsored a club and never knew who they were, and now we have a club that joins in the K-Family projects and that is the way it supposed to work. Thanks to all of the Key Clubbers that helped. (Don’t forget, ya’ll, this is a two-way street, and some of us should help in a project or two of theirs. We should also attend some of their meetings as well having them attend our meetings.) Thank you notes have also gone out to Happy Garden Chinese Restaurant for donating the egg rolls and to St. Johns Pennysaver for the donation of the ad in their paper for two weeks. I would be remiss if I did not thank Art Runk and The Chius, once again, for donating the bulk of the items which they had as a result of renters not paying for their storage bins. Of course, many members likewise donated stuff, and we tried to sell it all. Thanks to all who donated items and most especially your time to help in this endeavor.
We have received some information from our esteemed
Lt. Gov. Bill Montgomery, concerning
a division wide Peanut Day. It sounds good, and will be on the agenda at next
month’s board meeting.
As long as we are passing out kudos, another one goes
out to Steve Fricke for getting The Record to put in the article about
our Student of the Month with picture! It would appear that after many years of
attempting to get some coverage at The
Record, it takes the guy with the gun to get us some attention and R E S P
E C T for the club. Thanks Steve.

Programs:
(Check the website for your speaker assignment date.)
LAST WEEK: Lou Nester introduced
Schuyler Siefker, the executive
director of St. Augustine Youth Services. She has spoken to us in the past, and
the program is still going strong, although they are in need of new and larger
quarters. The group houses and trains young men between the
ages of six and 18 who have been a victim of some form of sexual abuse.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and she indicated that she would get us
some more information before April.
THIS WEEK: Our intrepid earring wearer, Frank Nemec, has the program responsibility, and we look forward to it.
NEXT WEEK: Charles Myers
has the duty. I sent him an e-mail to that effect, but have not heard from him.
Does anyone know if he is going to show?
⅓-⅓-⅓ DRAWING WINNERS: Jeff Bell
returned to the club, and by golly he was one of the winners as was Art Runk.. Congrats and mix those tickets
up better next time. Buy your tickets early and often.
Late Breaking News:
The annual Geography Bee is
coming up soon and Bob will keep us
posted as the time draws neigh. New members, this is a MUST attend! You will
enjoy it as much as the kids. Sign up to help at this one too. I trust that
after last week Bob got all the
workers he needed to sign up. This really is an event that you don’t want to
miss. It is educational to one and all.
Winter Olympics are in full swing in
As noted earlier, Jeff Bell was back in tow last week. Now that the young’n has grown
up, and we are moving to Village Inn, we hope this will become a permanent
event on Thursday morning for him and for us.
Quote(s) of the Week:
"The fact is that most fathers
are not incestuous rapists. Likewise, most parents are not unhinged throwbacks
who simply cannot handle juvenile pregnancies. Indeed, parents know a lot more
about their children than do abortion advocates or judges. They have the
history and connection with their kids to help them get through the trauma of
such a pregnancy. Even in the most caring families, though, children often try
to hide misconduct rather than face recrimination or embarrassment. The law
should not reinforce those inclinations by allowing minors to bar parental
knowledge or consent. What these groups fail to recognize is that the rights of
speech, association and religion mean little if parents cannot teach and
reinforce moral choices within their families. Family values and integrity are
not the enemies of the right to privacy but the very things that privacy is
meant to protect." —Jonathan Turley
