President’s Message:

A total of seven of us went to the Division Council meeting. Our Governor is a very dynamic guy. He puts the goals up and challenges you to meet them. One new project of which I was not aware is the First Lady’s Project known as the Dictionary Project. Actually, it is a nationwide program and has been giving dictionaries to third graders for several years. Your simply purchase the dictionaries from them at a greatly reduced price and hand them out. They even have letters of introduction to use to mail to the Superintendent and the Principals. The dictionaries (you have a choice) sell for as little as $1 each. Perhaps we could use some of that scholarship we aren’t going to award to work on this.

I might add that Lt. Gov. Rande kept the meeting running on time, and we were in our vehicle ready to leave by 8:14. The Division is 100% paid up to the Foundations, and our Key Club Lt. Gov. is running for the District spot at the convention to be held within a week or so. Best of luck to her. Thanks to Tim, Bob,

Cheryle, Richard, Jerry, and Nick for going with me and keeping me awake while I drove.

Don’t forget too, the Mid-Year Conference in Lake City in March. The club will pay the registration fee for those members that wish to attend. I believe we have some going to that event as well.

The Geography Bee is fast approaching. This is a fun event, the teachers there do most of the work, and we all learn something new. A good time is had by all!

Coming Events: [Advise the editor of events of interest at 797-4332]

2 March 2007: First Friday Art Walk, check out the local galleries downtown and taste their food and wine.

3 March 2007: Uptown Saturday Night, check out the local galleries uptown on the first Saturday of each month, and taste their food and wine.

22 March 2007: Our annual Geography Bee. Again this year it will be held at Sebastian Middle School. Always a great time had by all. Plan to spend the early evening with your fellow members, and Bob will be getting us to fill jobs too.

March 30 - April 1, 2007: The North Midyear Conference for divisions 1-15 to be held in Lake City in conjunction with the Hog Wild Pig Crazy Barbeque festival. See our website for details.

Guests: Back for another visit with our club and our fair city is Harry Matteson, escaping all that white stuff in upstate New York. He’ll be here for a while; it takes time for that stuff to melt. Nick had as his guest, Dave Harney, who is presently a member of the Palm Coast club.

Programs: (Check the website for your speaker assignment date.)

LAST WEEK: Our hardworking Lt. Gov., Rande Le Fevre, made the first of his official visits.  He is certainly energetic and gave us the overview of the year ahead. He, of course, asked us to make an effort to get to the Division Council and to the Midyear Conference in Lake City. (We have already discussed the one and we have at least three going to the other meeting.)

THIS WEEK: Bob Corson was up, but he said he couldn’t get to this meeting. Jerry Saia attempted to find a speaker, but as of this writing, none have been located.

NEXT WEEK:  Our monthly meeting of committees and Board Meeting.

⅓-⅓-⅓ DRAWING WINNERS: The winning tickets were drawn and the winners were Jim Dale and Cheryle Newman. Congrats to boy. Remember to mix those tickets well, and to buy your tickets early and often.

Late Breaking News:

In case you have been spending your last month or so in a coma, Anna Nicole Smith died suddenly. The multi-talented, actress died early, much like her icons, Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. I haven’t heard who will accept her Academy Award should she win. Tune in and watch on Sunday.

Also in the news was the diaper wearing astronaut who attacked her rival for the affections of still another astronaut. It would appear that there is very little news of late, because those two stories sucked all the air from the room

Barry Bonds showed up for spring training. How about that! Tom Brady has been named the father of a baby being carried by his ex-girlfriend. I wonder if he is going to throw his hat in the ring to be named the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby. I don’t see why not, everyone else has. I wonder if that number would drop off should it be determined that there will be no money from the sugar daddy’s estate.
