President’s
Message:
Hello again thrill seekers. Ag Day was
yesterday, and we will report on that today. The 31st is the last
day to apply for the scholarship. More details on that soon; as of last week we
had received one application.
Coming Events: [Advise the
editor of events of interest at 797-4332]
29 March 2008: Uptown Saturday Night, check out the local galleries
uptown on the last Saturday of each month, and taste their food and wine.
4 April 2008: First Friday Art Walk, check out the local galleries
downtown and taste their food and wine.
5 April 2008: Our District-wide show up at the ball park day. Our
governor wants all clubs to do something with kids at a ball park. We are going
to help with the concession stand so the parents can watch their kid play.
15 April 2008: Our annual Geography Bee. Once again held at
Sebastian MS beginning at 7:00pm. Bob has done his usual good job of setting up
everything prior to the event, we just need to sign up and do our part to help
on the night in question. As I say every year, this is a great project and you
will have more fun helping on this project than many others that we are a part
of. Mark your calendar now and be sure and get to this event. If this is like
all the others I have attended, you will learn something.
10 May 2008: Our next Garage Sale is planned. We need items to
sell, so get your closets and storage units emptied and get the stuff to Tim
Chiu. Once again, Tim and Jolande are gracious enough to host the event at
their business (A1A Hardware) and even store the stuff for us. Please call Tim
prior to delivering the stuff to make sure he will be there and available to
direct you to the place to store the stuff. Also, it would be helpful to give
us an idea of what you think the stuff is worth.
Guests: Harry, our
annual transplant from

LAST WEEK:
Doug, our hard working Prez,
introduced Nancy Scott, a nurse that
helps at his nursing facility as well as with hospice. She discussed
Alzheimer’s decease. She indicated that the medical profession is beginning to
come to the conclusion that it is genetic. There are some things we can do, but
if you are predisposed, you are probably just delaying the onset. First of all
we need to learn to focus more. Keeping things in you memory bank longer will
help. We have a tendency to lose short-term memory as we age. This is not
necessarily the onset of Alzheimer’s. Do exercises that make you use your
brain. She mentioned that crossword puzzles were very good. She also
recommended a book Everyday Memory
Builder. Check at Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

NEXT WEEK:
The first meeting of the month means committee meetings and the Board Meeting
50/50 DRAWING WINNERS: Last week’s winner was Mark Shelley. Mark, I certainly hope they got the money to you. Mix
those tickets up real good this time, and get mine on top.
Late Breaking News:
March Madness has begun, and
I have yet to watch a game. Only thing I’ve seen on the news that would
interest me is that Davidson is the new David slaying the Goliaths.
In football, the guys are getting ready for the NFL
draft. Might be an interesting year for that.
Baseball cranked up with the first game played in
In other news, to quote the Sonny & Cher song,
“…The beat goes on, yeah the beat goes on,” which is the refrain the Democrats
are singing on their way to the convention. Interesting year in politics, when
everyone thought that by now Hillary would be measuring the drapes in the White
House. Well, of course, at this time we don’t know if she is even going to be
the nominee. We may see a convention much like I remember in my youth where the
final decision is made AT the convention. There is even a story on Drudge in
which a Florida Congressman is saying that they might wind up with a compromise
candidate such as Al Gore. (I’m certainly hoping that that is the case.)
Quote(s) of the Week:
Every once in a while I get something of interest in my e-mail. The following
is from our own Bob Corson; food for thought, or is it drink?
As Ben Franklin said: “In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom,
in water there is bacteria.” In a number of carefully controlled trials,
scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the
end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli,
(E. coli) - bacteria found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of
poop.
However,
we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey
or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of
boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.
Remember:
Water = Poop, Wine = Health
Therefore,
it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of
shit
There is no need to thank me for this valuable
information: I'm doing it as a public service.
