President’s Message:

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Carla Hedges, wife of a former club president, Richard Hedges, passed away last Sunday. Speaking for the Club, I want to extend our deepest condolences to the Chief. This has to be a very empty time for him. Should there be anything that you need from us, please give us a call. There will be a memorial service Saturday, May 23rd, 3:00pm, at Craig Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the Chief has requested that donations be made in memory of Carla Hedges to: Stuart F. Meyer Hospice Home, 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164

Coming Events: [Advise the editor of events of interest at 797-4332]

30 May 2009: Children’s Triathlon is being held to benefit the Children’s Museum, which is in its infancy. Skeeter’s committee is leading our charge on this, and he indicates that in order for us to help we must fill out background paperwork in advance. Check with Skeeter for more details. According to Skeeter, they could use more hands in this mix.

30 May 2009: Uptown Saturday Night, check out the local galleries uptown on the last Saturday of each month, and taste their food and wine.

5 June 2009: First Friday Art Walk, check out the local galleries downtown and taste their food and wine.

Guests: We were proud to have in attendance, our Lieutenant Governor, Brad Davis, who was making the second of his two board meeting assignments that he is required to make to each club in his division. The only comment I heard to Brad was to get a better handle on the people who talk at the Council meetings. (This, as you know, is an oft heard comment to most Lt. Governors in the past.) Also in attendance was Savannah Stevens, forced to attend by her grandfather, Charlie Stevens. He wanted to let everyone know he could still get a young lady to have a meal with him.

Programs: (Check the website for your speaker assignment date.)

LAST WEEK: We had our monthly Board of Director’s meeting, of which more later.

THIS WEEK: According to the schedule, Rhett Davis has the program. In addition, we should have the last Student of the Month for this school year. I believe Bob told me that the student was from Pedro Menendez.

NEXT WEEK: According to the schedule, Steve Fricke, has the program

50/50 DRAWING WINNERS: The big winner last week was our own hard working President, Dave Thompson. Mix those tickets real good, and make sure mine is on top.

NEWS OF NOTE:

For those of you who do not read the Record and are not on Tim’s e-mail list, the Flagler College chapter of SIFE (Students In Free.Enterprise) won the national competition which was held on Philadelphia. There were a total of 118 teams in the competition. They won over Carnegie-Mellon, UofF, and many other larger schools. For those of you who were at the meeting on 7 May, we got to see and comment on the presentation. The next step is the World Cup contest in Berlin. We wish them well.

The Board of Directors Notes: Rhett Davis indicated that there was to be at least a foursome from our club to play in the Young Life Golf Tournament. (We don’t hear as much about Young Life since Pres Hull retired.)

Bob reported that Eric S. Terrell, an eighth grade student from Switzerland Middle School, won the St. Johns County Geography Bee this year. For those of us in attendance, it was another super contest. Thanks to one and all that came out and supported the club. Special thanks to Charles Myers for his generous donation of the computer for the winner. Prizes will be awarded at the School Board meeting on 9 June, early on the agenda.

The club may be asked to support a Habitat for Humanity project. Some are already volunteering, and there will be more news on this in the near future.

Lou Nester is still lining up the equipment that will be required for us to get back to the business of highway beautification.

We need to get busy on membership. According to our Secretary, Grant Neilson has had to resign because of work scheduling. In addition, Ellen Coryat has indicated that she too will have to resign because she now lives on the other side of Jax, and comes to work at Creekside. She will continue as our Key Club sponsor at the school, so we haven’t lost her completely.

Quotes You Can Use (or Not):

Things I like to do at Wal-Mart while my spouse is taking her sweet time:

1. Get 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in people’s carts when they aren't looking.

2. Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

3. Go to the Service Desk and ask to put a bag of M&M's on layaway.

4. Move a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

5. Set up a tent in the camping department and tell other shoppers you'll invite them in if they'll bring pillows from the bedding department.

6. When a clerk asks if they can help you, begin to cry and ask 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?'

7. Look right into the security camera; use it as a mirror, and pick your nose.

8. While handling guns in the hunting department, ask the clerk if he knows where the anti- depressants are.

9. Dart around the store suspiciously, loudly humming the "Mission Impossible" theme.
