Coming Eve=
nts:
31 December 2011=
span>: Uptown Saturday night is held the last Saturda=

op

(Probably not this month.)
7 January 2012: First Friday Art Walk is held on the first Fri=
day of
each month and this is when the downtown galleries and stores stay open and
invite you to tour their facilities. Most serve a glass of wine also.
4 February 2012: Kiwanis Education Day will be held in Jacksonv=
ille,
precise location TBA. This does away with the Zone Conferences and should m=
ake
it easier for more members to attend. Mark your calendar now and reserve the
date, especially for those newer members who need to learn more about Kiwan=
is.
7 February 2012: We are participating in the Celebrity Waitstaff
festivities at Hurricane Grill & Wings from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Several of =
us
have done this over the years. It will aid Big Brothers-Big Sisters locally=
. In
order for the invitations to go out on time, they would like the names befo=
re
the holiday season. Skeeter is coordinating. Please sign up. This ye=
ar

NEWS OF NOTE:
**>Remember the=
paint
can located beside our badge case. That is for cash donations to the campai=
gn
to eradicate tetanus in children and new moms, our major fundraiser for the
foreseeable future.<**
My son, Jason's
Facebook page made mention of our Club's Christmas for the local children. A
customer of his, Alex Landis, called and said that she and her sister
would like to help. Their father had told them not to get him any gifts but=
to
help others. I put her in touch with Skeeter, who in turn got them in
contact with the school, and they got involved and helped out in the Christ=
mas
spirit. It often does pay to open your mouth. Many thanks to them.
Last week we honored =
our
Student of the Month for December, Marissa Brea, from Pedro Menendez
High School. She wants to be an engineer, and not the kind that drives the
train. I am always in awe of most of these students we honor, because I can
remember when I was in school, and don't see how they do what they do, beca=
use
they have as much time as we did. Just better time managers, I guess.
It would appear that =
the
Jaguars will have a new owner very soon. He jumped the first hurdle last we=
ek,
and was interviewed briefly. He sounded like your typical entrepreneur, by
saying that he was happy to be the first foreign born owner of an NFL team,=
but
said more that once that it was because he was in this country that he had =
the
opportunity to do such a thing. (Only in America!) Wednesday, the 14th=
was when the owners meet. Sounds like it will all go down.
After the board of di=
rectors
approved the membership application of Robert Wagner, who was brough=
t in
by Mark Shelley; we were pleased to induct him into the club last we=
ek.
Being a retired Air Force pilot, we know that he will add much to our club.
Welcome, Bob!!
We also had a visit f=
rom Bill
McClure, who is transferring from the Keyhole Sights Club. From what he said he has moved aro=
und as
part of his job, but has always managed to find a Kiwanis Club to join.
Welcome, Bill!!
Last week's program w=
as Brad
& Jessica Beech, who are part of an outreach program at Anastasia
Baptist. They went on a mission in conjunction with Young Life (there you g=
o, Pres)
in Nicaragua. They worked on a coffee plantation with the youth of the area.
Sounded like a lot of fun-work.
